2011 Pre-Service Fire Fighter Calendar Now Available

Just in time for Christmas shopping, Conestoga’s Pre-Service Fire Fighting students are pleased to introduce a unique gift item that could save a life, while supporting the program and the community.

The 2011 Pre-Service Fire Fighting Calendar features photographs of the class in training on the fire ground, along with fire safety tips that will help raise awareness throughout the whole year. The project, developed by a group of 30 students, began as a fundraising initiative to offset costs for the annual graduation awards banquet.

Local photographers donated their services, and as the project grew, the students expanded their objectives. Inspired by a class presentation on the role played by the Sunshine Foundation in making a difference to children’s lives, the group decided to include raising funds for the organization, which grants wishes and dreams for children with disabilities, as part of their goal.

Local businesses have shown their support for the project by providing sponsorships for each month, and the group hopes to sell at least 2000 calendars before the end of the year. Fifty per cent of all proceeds will go directly to the Sunshine Foundation.

Calendars will be sold for $10 each through the Conestoga College bookstore and in special events across the community, or can be ordered through preservicefire@hotmail.com.

On behalf of Conestoga’s Pre-Service Fire Fighting class, many thanks for your support of this community project.
