Catching Up with Academic Upgrading

97% of Academic Upgrading students who started their post-secondary programs during the fall of 2009 and the winter of 2010 successfully completed their first semester of their chosen college program!

Students participate in Academic Upgrading (AU) courses to:

  • improve their employment prospects
  • prepare for writing their GED
  • improve their academic skills to succeed in apprenticeship and other college programs
  • complete the academic subjects they require before entering post-secondary college programs

Students participate in Academic Upgrading courses to improve their employment prospects, to prepare for writing the GED, to improve their academic skills to succeed in apprenticeship and other training and to complete the academic subjects required to enter post-secondary college programs that they may have missed or where they needed a higher mark. Most students of the latter group enter a Conestoga program, others study at other Ontario colleges.

Each year we track our Academic Upgrading students who enter a Conestoga post-secondary program to make sure that the preparation we provide ( academic as well as non-academic ) forms a solid base for success. The result:

97% of Academic Upgrading students who started their post-secondary programs during the fall of 2009 and the winter of 2010 successfully completed the first semester of their chosen college program.

50.5% attend programs in the fields of Health and Life Sciences and Community Services, 18.7% Business and Hospitality, 16.8% Technology, 11.2% Trades and Apprenticeship training, 1.9% Language Studies, and 0.9% programs in Media & Design.

And while the types of programs and the required academic and other preparation varied widely, all students had in common that through their individualized Learning Plans Academic Upgrading prepared them well - for success.
