Hair Stylist Career: from Cambodia to Ontario Recognition

Sila came to Job Connect two months after arriving in Canada from Cambodia. With a hair stylist certificate from Cambodia, and two years work experience in a salon there, Sila's goal was to obtain a license for hairdressing in Ontario.

Job Connect staff worked with Sila to develop a resume, and spoke with the Apprenticeship Office regarding her past experience and the process for obtaining a Canadian license. Staff also worked with Sila to complete an ICAS application to have her high school diploma evaluated. Then, through Job Connect’s job development service, Sila was offered a position at First Choice Haircutters where she was signed as an Apprentice.

Sila continues to work at First Choice Haircutters and is happy to have met her career objective.
