Conestoga to Hold Open House November 28 in Kitchener

More and more people are discovering a valuable fact - a college education is a great bargain, both in terms of cost and in terms of the dividends it pays through acquisition of the practical skills wanted and needed by employers.

In terms of enrolment, program numbers and program variety, Conestoga College has experienced tremendous growth in the past five years. To showcase for the community the value of its educational resources and the opportunities these offer, Conestoga will hold an open house on Saturday, November 28, from 1-3 p.m.

The event, presented in a trade show format, will be at the Conestoga Recreation Centre, located at the Doon campus in Kitchener.

On hand will be program faculty, students and senior academic officials to answer questions and provide information about program content, admissions requirements and processes, and the many career options open to graduates.

More than 80 full-time programs of study and related academic services will be represented. The programs cover the full spectrum of opportunities from Conestoga's main academic areas: business and hospitality; engineering technology; information technology; health and life sciences; community services; media and design; trades and apprenticeship; liberal studies; and career and academic access.

Among the highlighted service areas will be admissions, financial aid, job placement, student activities and government, residence facilities, and athletics and recreation.

Visitors can also arrange to take a campus tour or a tour of one of the major academic areas. Campus tours will begin every 20 minutes, starting at 1:15 p.m. Tours originate from the Recreation Centre.

In the past five years, Conestoga's full-time enrolment has grown by more than 20 per cent and the number of academic programs has doubled. The first phase of a major new campus in Cambridge will begin construction in 2010. A new power trades training centre will open next year in Ingersoll. Work on a substantial enlargement of the Doon campus is set to begin by the middle of 2010, and construction is already under way in Waterloo on a roofing skills training centre, as well as a training centre devoted to heating/air conditioning/ventilating trades.

The November 28 open house will assure visitors of information and insight on all these developments that will make Conestoga even more valuable to the regional economy, and confirm the College's pre-eminent position as a pathway to prosperity for individuals and industries.
