New Masonry Fundamentals Program

Conestoga College is pleased to announce its partnership with the Ontario Masonry Training Centre (OMTC) in Mississauga to offer the Masonry Fundamentals program, set to launch in April 2009.This 16 week full-time Ontario College certificate program is designed to give students the opportunity to gain trade specific skills in the Brick and Stone Mason trade. The program offers instruction in Masonry Safety, Carpentry Tools and Equipment, Masonry Practice and Masonry Theory. To enhance marketability, students will improve their communication and mathematics competencies for the trades as well as augment their job readiness skills.

The field of masonry is facing a dire shortage of skilled workers in Ontario. Conestoga is a major force in trades and apprenticeship education in Ontario– the third largest apprenticeship college in the Ontario system, a leader in the development of new programming and curriculum, Conestoga College continues to work with industry to address skill shortages in technical trades and provides other post -secondary pathways in construction sector including Construction Techniques, Renovation Technician and Women in Skilled Trades - General Carpentry.

Graduates from the Masonry Fundamentals program can expect to find entry level employment in the construction industry or a traditional apprenticeship in the Brick & Masonry trade.
