40th Annual Athletic Banquet

The Conestoga College 40th Annual Athletic Banquet took place on Tues. April 8, 2008.

All the Condor Varsity teams were there to spend a nice dinner together and rehash their successful seasons. For some it final time they would be together as a team.

Conestoga has varsity teams in rugby, golf, softball, soccer (indoor and outdoor), badminton and cross-country running. All varsity teams and athletes were recognized, as the various coaches had a chance to share some stories from the past season.

Melissa Vosin - Female Athlete of the Year

Melissa Vosin

She was a member of the Women’s Fastball Team. She had an outstanding year at the plate leading her team in all areas. She was 2nd overall in OCAA hitting with 25 AB, 13 Hits, 6 Runs, 11 RBI’s and a hitting percentage of .520. In Conestoga's 1st game of the season against Mowhak, She went 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run and 2 RBI’s . She continued throughout the season to make big hits in key situations. She is a co-winner of this years team MVP award. She is a 2nd year Early Childhood Education student graduating this year and her play on the field, her great attitude and her contagious smile will surely be missed.

David Sharratt - Male Athlete of the Year

David Sharrat

He is a 1st year student in the Mechanical Technician - General Machinist program. At the OCAA Provincials Championships he finished 1st overall in the Men’s 8K race with a time of 27:05. He went onto represent Conestoga at the Canadian College Athletic Association Championship in Grande Prairie, Alberta. There he finished 8th overall and was named a member of the Ontario Conference team that captured 1st overall.

Additional accomplishments this year include 1st place at the St. Clair Invitational, 2nd place at the Fanshawe Invitaionsal, OCAA All-Ontario Team, and OCAA Athlete of the Week. He continues to run over 100 miles a week and gets up at 5:30 every morning to go for his first run of the day. He is a very driven individual who is always striving to be better.
