Special Education Students "Recreation Fun Day”

This event is a joint partnership between the Waterloo Region District
School Board and the Recreation and Leisure Parachute Game - Recreation Fun DayServices
program at Conestoga College. It was initiated in 2005, and was run for
the second time on April, 7, 2006.

The Year 1 students in the Recreation and Leisure Services program are
responsible for the needs assessment, planning and implementation of this
half day event. A small executive committee is chosen to co-ordinate the
various activities as well as serves as the liaison between the Board
staff and fellow students.

Four main activity stations are offered to provide the one hundred public
school students with a variety of creative games to challenge their physical
prowess. The emphasis is on fun, teamwork and skill development. All of
the activities planned are inclusive so that physically challenged students
(wheelchairs, crutches, walkers) can participate.

This event is an opportunity for the Recreation and Leisure Services
students to practically apply the concepts and skills they are taught
in the "Program Planning" and "Dynamics of Leadership"
courses offered in Semester 2.
