Employment Readiness Program Offers Key Skills

For qualified individuals seeking essential skills to prepare for employment or practical training, Conestoga College will be offering a tuition-free ten-week program beginning on February 28 at its Waterloo campus.

Employment/Training Readiness (E/TR) is a daytime, weekday opportunity for students to work closely, in individual and group activities, with highly qualified, experienced faculty in a number of preparatory areas. In the area of personal skills, participants develop useful problem-solving, stress-management and study techniques. In the career skills area, emphasis is on self-assessment, identification of strengths and accomplishments, and career research. In the employment skills area, the focus is on employment-finding strategies, resume and interview techniques, and actual workplace experience.

The aim is to build knowledge and confidence in participants, who learn to apply problem-solving skills related to making realistic life decisions, setting goals and creating plans of action.

Also included is the development of useful communications and mathematics skills.

Those wishing to enrol in the E/TR program must be at least 19 years old, must participate in a program suitability interview and must have English-language skills appropriate to program content.
