Conestoga’s Job Connect Program Earns Provincial Honour

The Job Connect program of Conestoga College has been selected for a Service Quality Award granted by the province’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Conestoga is one of nine Job Connect agencies to receive this award, which recognizes business practices that achieve or exceed provincial standards in customer service, effectiveness and efficiency. The Conestoga award is at the bronze level. An additional five agencies have earned Service Results Awards for best performance in data gathering to reflect client service and results.

Of the 14 agencies recognized, Conestoga is the only college in either midwestern or southwestern Ontario to merit an award.

In announcing the awards, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Mary Anne Chambers commented, “We are recognizing the efforts of these colleges and agencies to build strong partnerships with employers in their communities and strengthen the skills of our people. Job seekers and employers across the province benefit from the excellent employment preparation and placement services that they provide.”

She added, “A prosperous economy depends on a well-educated and highly skilled workforce. The services provided by these colleges and agencies will not only ensure we have a strong economy, but also help us build a quality of life that is second to none.”

The award was given in respect to Conestoga’s Kitchener Job Connect location. Conestoga also operates Job Connect from Cambridge, Guelph, Fergus and Waterloo locations. The program helps people plan, prepare for and succeed in the job market. Services provided include information about the local labour market and training opportunities, support for job searchers, career planning and placements with employers who are willing to provide on-the-job training. The program also connects people with apprenticeship opportunities, and provides services to help new Canadians and internationally trained professionals integrate more rapidly into Ontario’s economy.
