Free Skills Upgrading Program Offered at Guelph Campus

Conestoga is midwestern Ontario's most comprehensive source of educational opportunities. A key aspect of this is providing practical educational programs that give individuals the skills and confidence to enter or re-enter the job market, or to prepare for further, specialized career education.

Beginning in September, the Guelph campus of Conestoga will offer a tuition-free preparatory program called Employment/Training Readiness (E/TR). The eight-week, daytime program starts on Monday, September 13.

Conestoga is now accepting applications for E/TR. The program is open to applicants who are age 19 or older, whether or not they have completed Grade 12.

Participants in E/TR work individually and in groups to evaluate and improve skills in a number of areas. They learn to set goals and create plans associated with personal management, education and employment. They discover their skill levels in communications and mathematics, and work at enhancing these. They develop and practice fundamental computer skills. They even take part in a two-week job shadow experience in actual employment settings.

Completion of the program can lead to an actual job search or to possible further education and training.

Applicants must take part in a suitability interview before beginning the E/TR program and possess appropriate English-language proficiency.

Interested individuals can contact the Conestoga College Information Centre for more details. In the Guelph area, call 763-9525, ext. 3656; in Waterloo Region, call 748-5220, ext. 3656. More information is also available from the Guelph campus at 824-9390, ext. 172.
