Applicants Invited to Explore Conestoga

For applicants seeking fall 2004 admission to Conestoga College, this weekend will be a busy, informative, exciting time.

More than 5,000 applicants are invited to Explore Conestoga, the annual event designed to give them a first-hand look at the College, its programs, student life and the distinctive values of a practical education. Many visitors will be accompanied by parents and family members.

Explore Conestoga happens during daytime hours from Friday, March 5 through Sunday, March 7 at the Doon campus in Kitchener. At the campuses in Guelph and Waterloo, Explore Conestoga events take place on Sunday, March 7.

Visitors will learn about program curriculum, student life and career options, meet program representatives, see College facilities and use this information to help them determine the benefits of making Conestoga their college of first choice. Even though the event will be on a large scale, it is designed to be visitor-friendly: sessions are scheduled so that applicants have a variety from which to choose (in fact, quite a few are by invitation only) and so that group sizes are relatively small, to promote personal attention.

The schedule of sessions is quite varied, but follows these general lines. Friday at Doon features a number of sessions associated with media, health sciences and community services programs. The Saturday lineup at Doon also includes media, health sciences and community services sessions, as well as a number of sessions associated with liberal studies programs. Sunday morning at Doon concentrates on business programs, while in the afternoon the focus is on engineering and information technology. On Sunday morning at Guelph, trades and technology programs at that campus are the focus. In the afternoon, the Waterloo campus hosts sessions for its business and information technology programs.

A number of general sessions are also scheduled at Doon all three days on topics such as co-op education, employment services for students, student associations and student life, finances for college and services/accommodations for students with learning disabilities.
