Conestoga Recognizes Long-Service and Outstanding Employees

Conestoga College recognized employees who have attained 10-35 years of service and presented five Employee Recognition Awards to outstanding employees at the recent Guild Reception, an annual event of appreciation for employees and retirees.

Nomination and selection of Employee Recognition Award winners is a peer honour, by and for Conestoga employees, with each recipient presented with a trophy.

This year's winners are:

The Innovation Award goes to Bob Evans, an accounting professor, for his work in expanding co-op opportunities for accounting students, helping realize an accounting diploma-degree articulation agreement between Conestoga and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and continuing work on a proposed similar agreement with the University of Windsor.

The Student Life Award goes to Robert Schaaf, a mechanical engineering professor, for his leadership in promoting student collegiality in the program through events such as curling bonspiels and golf tournaments, plus his guidance and support to the Conestoga student chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

The Team Spirit Award goes to Carol Gregory of Student Services, for her leadership in researching, organizing and team building in connection with a new, standardized, structured orientation program for students entering the College.

Community Involvement Awards go to Martin Hare, a mechanical engineering professor, and Monica Himmelman of Alumni Services. Hare was honoured both for his involvement with and on behalf of his students and for his and his wife's achievements as foster parents with a number of children over a number of years. Himmelman was honoured for her leadership for several years as co-ordinator of the Conestoga College United Way campaign, and for her work with Waterloo Region Homes for Mental Health.
