Two Conestoga Students Win National Skills Canada Medals

Conestoga College students Andrew Hartholt of Milton and Jeff Lotz of Kitchener are winners of Canadian gold medals for their technical expertise at the Seventh Canadian Skills Competition (CSC), which took place from May 31 - June 3 in Edmonton.

They were among more than 300 students from all provinces and territories of Canada who competed in more than 30 technical skills categories. Competitions took place at the secondary and postsecondary level. In all, Ontario entrants brought home 27 medals -- 18 secondary and nine postsecondary. Conestoga was the only Ontario college to produce gold-medal winners in the postsecondary area.

Hartholt, who is a student in the Architecture - Construction Engineering Technology program at the Doon campus in Kitchener, won CSC gold in the Architectural CADD (computer-aided design drafting) category. Lotz, a student in the Mechanical Engineering Technology - Design and Analysis program at Doon, took top honours in the Mechanical CADD competition.

Skills Canada is a voluntary association of educators, business and industrial leaders, and government representatives working together to promote and highlight the importance of technical education and careers to young Canadians.
