Conestoga Professor Wins Technology Association Honour

The Ontario Association for Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is the professional association responsible for certifying engineering and applied science technicians and technologists who are graduates of the province’s postsecondary educational institutions. Each year, the association honours outstanding educators, writers, technical professionals and volunteers.

At the recent OACETT awards dinner in Toronto, Mitch Wawzonek of Conestoga College received an Award of Merit. A faculty member at Conestoga for the past 16 years, he received the honour for sustained and exceptional service over time, in a manner that results in the betterment of the aims of the OACETT.

Wawzonek teaches primarily in Conestoga’s Mechanical Engineering Technician/Technology programs, where his specialties are mechanical engineering design (included computer-aided design drafting) and computer programming. He has also worked extensively in the areas of curriculum development and revision. He has been a valuable resource person to Conestoga’s Mechanical Engineering Program Advisory Committee, which is composed of practising professionals in the field, and participated in four International Skills Competitions as a Skills Canada Canadian expert in engineering drawing (Taiwan, 1993; France, 1995; Switzerland, 1997; Montreal, 1999).

A resident of Cambridge, he holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Waterloo (1977) and a Master of Applied Science from the University of British Columbia (1979).
