Work disability management system standard for paramedic service organizations: Managing disabilities associated with operational stress injuries

Conestoga's Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance (CISWP); Centre for Research on Work Disability Policy (CRWDP); Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group); and Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC) will present a webinar focused on the new CSA standard work disability management (WDM) system requirements, based on evidence-informed best practices. 

The objective of the standard is to provide requirements and guidance to effectively manage the health needs of workers in the paramedic service organization (PSO) to minimize the possibility or impact of work disability, as well as onboard workers, specifically paramedics, with disabilities. A focus is given on the prevention and management of work disability related to operational stress injuries (OSI) and other mental health and well-being conditions.

Panelists will discuss their experience and perspectives on managing disabilities associated with OSI.

Speakers: Dr. Amin Yazdani, executive director, CISWP; Dr. Emile Tompa, director, CRWDP; Pierre Poirier, chief/chef, Ottawa Paramedic Service/Service paramédic d’Ottawa.

Panelists: Kathy Kamkar, clinical psychologist, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH); Dave Libby, commander, County of Renfrew; Kathleen Fraser, executive director, EMS Employee Programs, Alberta Health Services.
