National Indigenous Peoples Day event

June 20, 2022 | 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Doon campus

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day and many Indigenous peoples and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on or near this day due to the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.

This is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

This year, the college is inviting employees and students to acknowledge this day on June 20 at Conestoga to ensure other community events and activities on June 21 can also be attended.

To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, a sacred fire will be observed in the Indigenous Teaching Garden at the Kitchener - Doon Campus. A firekeeper will facilitate the sacred fire and we welcome your participation in this important practice.

Students, employees, and community members are invited to engage in this occasion. No registration is required.

This event will be held rain or shine.

Parking:

  • Students and employees: if your parking permit is for a different campus, you are not required to purchase additional parking for the day, it will be valid at the Doon campus.
  • Community members: please check in at the Volunteer Table to arrange for your parking.
  • Attendees can park in any open lot at the Doon campus. The closest parking lot to the Indigenous teaching garden is Lot 2. A signage will be nearby to direct you to the garden.
