Women in Skilled Trades Information Session

June 9, 2016

108 University Ave. E.

Applications are currently being accepted for the full-time, tuition free Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) General Carpenter Pre-apprenticeship program offered in September 2016. This information session will provide an overview of the program and will outline the application and acceptance process.

The WIST program is a tuition-free program funded by the Ontario Women's Directorate and is designed to support low-income women who are unemployed or underemployed. The goal of the program is to prepare candidates for employment within the construction sector.

This 34-week program prepares students with 26 weeks of in-class practical theory and hands-on experience. The in-class portion of the program is designed to help women secure and succeed in their paid 8 week work placement.

The WIST program not only helps women gain well paying full-time careers in the trades, but aims to build self-confidence and provide students with a head-start on achieving apprenticeship certification, if applicable.

Previous experience in the trade’s field is not required; however, applicants should have a passion to excel in the program and the physical competence to succeed.

All candidates interested in this program are required to attend an information session. Please note that only 20 enrollment spaces are available in the WIST program
